Music Ministers—Spirit-filled voices
Music Ministers share their special gifts by leading the musical praise and thanksgiving during the liturgy. They lead and encourage the worshiping assembly to join in the experience of communal prayer. Whether Music Ministers harmonize in the traditional choir, sing psalms as cantors, or play instruments in the contemporary worship band, their music heightens and emphasizes the texts and ritual of the liturgy and sets the tone for community worship with joy and enthusiasm that cannot be gained in any other way.
Like any member of the assembly, the pastoral musician needs to be a believer, needs to experience conversion, needs to hear the Gospel and so proclaim the praise of God. He or she is a minister, someone who shares faith, serves the community, and expresses the love of God and neighbor through music. (USCCB, LMT, 64)
